Per the instructions you are only to add oil once the 1 qt low level (warning) has been reached. I guess this ensures that you won't overfill. You are correct though that there is no real feedback available that might prevent you from overfilling.

I checked this morning after having driven a while (instructions say to do that). I'm still at max level.

Thanks to all of you. Dropped by dealer on way home. Dealer gave me a quart of syn oil. Offered to fill for me but I thougth I may need to do this on the road so I did it myself.
