What I've seen, each car is different, I have 20k on my 05 e60 and already have had 2 oil changes. Each time I had about 9 -9 1/2 k on the car when it recommended an oil change. I don't know if its the way I drive, but I have not reach the more than 10 k before it recommends the change.

hey people
my friend and i was talking the other day and he told me that i should do an oil change right after my break in period to get ... something out of the engine
but i called my bmw dealer and the guy told me my car doesnt require any serives until the i drive shows me ..

so .. any suggestions on the oil change ? thanks
My reply is a heart-felt "whatever!!!" Really, do what you feel the best about doing. My opinion is that no one, including you, will every notice what you do or don't do provided you do no worse than what BMW recommends. And, actually, I am sure you could do at least somewhat worse without any one ever noticing.

My dealer did so at 1500 but purposely DID NOT RESET the meter. This was primarily because as a leftover it had sat around past a year. But BMW covered it, probably based on the elapsed time.

You could always ask that they change it but not reset the meter.

Cheers,

Where do most of you get your oil changes? Are you guys using synthetic?
When I get to my first oil change, it'll be done at my dealer using whatever synthetic they think is appropriate.

Thanks Z. I'll do the same, instead of going to the local Jiffy Lube

My car is coming in 7 - 10 days

Why whats so special about his car? Or What is he going to do with his car that no one else is doing? A 0 to 60 run?

I will be following the recommended service. I don't see the need to waste any more synthetic dinosaurs than necessary. We are already making the middle east wealth enough.

EB you didn't hear? I'm dropping a Gallardo engine in my 550, it's gonna do 0-60 in like negative three point two seconds.

I'm also adding a pratt and whitney F119 Turbojet engine when I get enough money, then I'll really take the cake

changing oil or not is a personal preference, will not hurt as long as you follow the idrive maintanence schedule. on the other hand if you are really planning to keep the car long term onwards 6 years ( most of us here wont), then i beleive in old school regular oil change, regardless of synthetic or not. every 6000 kms.

on another note, always keep an eye out on the oil level (through your dip stick), i find the oil gets low (1 notch) sooner than the sensor can detect.
check every month or so depending on how aggresive you drive, just plunk a bottle in it after breakfast if the level falls by a notch.
that i think is more important to look after.
