I am an oil fanatic. I changed mine right after break-in (1250), and I do it 1/2 way between oil changes (7500). I have always changed my oil in about half the period that is recommended and have always had solid engines (even the American ones) up at 200k.
So, I obviously recommend yes. However, if you follow the BMW service, I am sure you will also be fine.
I just figure the cost of oil is a small price to the overall vehicle price and plan on having mine for a long time.

This topic has been discuss million times. You don't have to change oil after break-in period, but if you want the best to your e60, change it anyway. It doesn't cost that much.
I did my first oil change at 4000 miles. The used oil from my e60 was really dirty. I am gald I did it.

Spend the money and get it done if you are considering keeping the car for a long period of time.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Cheers.

Not required... but if you like it wont hurt. Personally I did it because I plan on keeping the car for a long time and because of that I also pay for an in between oil change myself.
If dont plan on keeping the car for more than 4 years or so or if its a lease then forget it. dont worry about it.

Done 13,000miles now oil change due in 4,000miles. I believe its down to BMW. Lets face it if it needed it they would insist on it.

I am sure it is true with the e60's as with any other car - you can never change the engine oil too often. The only downside is the cost.

The only downside was that the day after the oil change the magical oil level sensor said I now had too much oil! That's when we found out the sensors are psycho.
I plan to change the oil again at 7,500 miles.
