I presume you are still under the new car warranty!

Tell your dealer to provide you with a comparable loaner car until your can can be attended to next Monday. If not, go to another dealer - it's unacceptable to be saddled with a 2008 BMW for 5 days that can't be driven. If either of those efforts don't work, call BMWNA immediately.

did you have a long crank at start up?

perhaps a fuel pump issue

are you running a tune, any new mods?

did you stop the engine, and then restart? If so, was the message still there?

could be as easy of a fix as a software update...GL

From perusing other threads here and elsewhere, a prime suspect would be the failure of your High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP).

The fault is with THEIR CAR, make the problem theirs instead of allowing them to make the problem YOURS!! Now go get that loaner car (Ideally, comparable to your car), and make sure they know how big an inconvenience this is for you!!

I got that message a while back and was an hour and a half away from my house. I called three local dealers and they all said if you don't feel a difference while driving it will be okay to drive it home. One dealer also said it was an engine misfire and was nothing to worry about as long as you don't feel a significant power loss. Anyways, I was driving home and stopped at a rest stop and when I restarted my car the message was gone. When my dealer checked it out they said it was just a misfire and was nothing to be overly concerned about. Hope it isn't anything more than that for you.
