Wow--what a coincidence! I guess we are related by our common CarFan bond!

FastCarFan,

Welcome to the forums. Just wanted to say: don't worry about the content of posts that you don't care about. There are a lot of people here who have a lot of different interests!

We must assume in good faith that all persons on this forum have respect for traffic laws and regulations in their jurisdictions. Some people have a great interest in the capabilities of the vehicles, even if they are never strictly used - the performance in these areas is reflective of the vehicle's ability in emergent driving conditions as well.

Probably 75% of the threads on this board won't interest you. Those that don't don't, don't worry about!

Thanks, and welcome again.

Thanks for the welcome.

After reading this thread, I don't know how anybody would not infer that at least 2 board members are driving their cars (in AZ and PA) in a fashion that is illegal and irresponsible. I find that to be an issue that no forum should condone. So if this board chooses to allow members to make posts that repeatedly (and I mean very repeatedly) exhibit illegal behavior, I'm just saying that it seems troubling to me.

Overall, this forum seems like a great resource, but allowing members to discuss--and encourage others to participate in--disrespect for the law is troubling to me. And it's not an isolated incident--this thread has gone on for a very long time with numerous posts discussing illegal activity. I'm sure the law enforcement officials in these communities wouldn't find this acceptable.

Hi All:

Do you have any thoughts on the following densitiy altitude calculations from SMOKEmUP?

Temp.--50F
Pressure--30 mercury
Dewpoint--28F
Altitude--1,550'
Calculated density altitude: 1,307.5'

Temp.--56F
Pressure--30 mercury
Dewpoint--28F
Altitude--1,550'
Calculated density altitude: 1,703.5'

I am surprised at the magnitue of the weather penalty for 50F versus 56F. Any, thoughts? Of course, there probably should be some penalty since the standard is 60F. At 60F, the density altitude goes to 1,963.8'. At 60F, density altitude is 1963.8', and it keeps going up from there. So, there is a benefit from 28F and 30 mercury.

Hi Friends:

I did two passes today, while the raw data were very good (but not great), my adjusted for weather and altitude data were quite good--in fact, now my two best (i.e., since I discovered a calculational error in what was my second best pass).

1/4 Speed.....105.778....105.144
1/8 Speed.......83.340......83.054
1/4 ET.............13.382.....13.444
0-100..............11.844.....12.011
0-90.................9.759.......9.878
1/8 ET..............8.684.......8.727
0-80.................8.048.......8.143
0-70.................6.475.......6.554
0-60.................4.898.......4.961
0-50.................3.772.......3.815
0-40.................2.719.......2.758
0-30.................1.678.......1.697
0-20.................0.901.......0.926
0-10.................0.277.......0.290

1/4 ET............13.382.....13.444
1,000'.............11.234....11.287
1/8 ET..............8.684......8.727
330'.................5.661......5.692
60'...................1.977......1.994

What is interesting to me is that the weather is warming up, but nevertheless I am getting relatively better adjusted times and speeds. This observation really shouldn't surprise me because comparability is the purpose of making the adjustments. But, is my car still learning? Will it continue to learn forever? I hope so. What I am saying can be seen generally by looking at my density altitude values and the related temperatures.

Date: .....................2/18......2/19....2/21...2/22......2/24....2/25....2/26......5/2
Density Altitude:...1223.2...1,239....881...913.3...1,469. 1...726..1,451...1,885.7
Temperature............49.........50......44.1.... .45........52.5......53.5....54.5....57.9

And, note, of course, that density altitute depends on things besides temperature--atmoshperic pressure, dew point, and actual altitude.
I'm sure the Phoenix police department would find all your posts most interesting.

Got it. And, now I know completely what you meant when you said:

"I reviewed some of my old data from may of 05.I didn't log the weather conditions at the time but temps were above 55 F and dew points that time of the year are close to actual temps, usually about 5 less than actual temps. I had 5.00 & 5.03 0-60 times along with 13.45 & 13.47 1/4 times(grogans formula).I doubt there would be a negative altitude equivilent at that time.:

Right those runs would be super if there are no negative weather effects. I have been having some negative weather effects, but they always are more than offset by my 1,550' altitude. Also, do you have the weather data for the 2/20/06 pass? Thanks. And, what is your new altitude again?
Hi Zman

The temp was 26 F,dew point % F,and the barometer was 30.18,Altitude was 400'
