My Ride: Jan 2006 E63 650i Sport . Options: Sport version (includes: sport-seats, sport-suspension, M-Sport steering wheel, Anthracite headliner, Shaddow Line), Saphire Black, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple Wood trim, Steptronic Auto, Xenons, NAV-Professional with Voice Control, TV, CD-Changer, Bluetooth, Logic7, Head-up Display, Comfort Access, Seat Heating front, Auto Dimming & Folding Mirrors, Extended Auto Air Conditioning, PDC. . Mods: Spacers 5mm front & 15mm rear . Wheels: 20" Alpina Softline (Classic) with Dunlop Sport Maxx non-RFT (255/35/20 & 285/30/20)
Default

The guys at TUV (German authorities for vehicles) are being a little difficult about approving the use of my 19" OEM M166s because they do not have the same ET values as the E60 (non-M5) 19" OEM rims offered by BMW from the factory. To the best of my knowledge, BMW does not provide a statement to confirm these M5 wheels can be (safely) used on the E60. I have used the same tyre sizes as the M172s, so it's just about the rims themselves.

Has anybody had these M5 M166 (or M167) wheels formally entered into the car's documentation in Germany?
(To use the German wording: Hat jemand diese Felgen beim TUV eintragen lassen?)

If so, it would be appreciated if they could send me a copy, which I can then take as a reference.
Please

Cheers

I don't think you will find someone in Germany that have done such a legal conversion.

I am just curious...Why is it necessary in Germany to have a TUV certification? Does this affect your insurance pricing? Thanks,

Thanks for sharing this question.

The ET on OEM E60 19" wheels should be 18 front (8,5" - 245/35) and 32 rear (9,5" - 275/30).
but the OEM M6 19" has 12 F (8,5" - 255/40) and 28 R (9,5" - 285/35).

Rhe 8 x 18" OEM E60 wheels has a ET of 20 for 245/40 tyres.

Is that too large of an change for the TUV?

Yes but the DOT doesn't tell us what wheels or other aftermarket stuff we can use.

The red reflector issue still boggles my mind. You would think that the DOT would require red reflectors on the tail end of all cars so in case the tail lights don't work at night that the red reflectors would at least be able to indicate that its the rear end of the vehicle. I have tried to think of a reason why this would be a DOT edict to be removed and I can't come up with a reason. Id love to see this in writing somewhere what the official stance is requiring them to be removed.

On the same boat as you. I still don't understand the RRR, because it has DOT string on RRR.
OK sorry for hijacking the thread.
Back to the wheel, there might be some rules from DOT about wheel and tires that we don't know. For example, we might DOT on tires. I'm not sure about the wheel.

It's allways difficult with the T?V.

In Germany EVERY mod has to be T?V certified or the car is ILLEGAL and you are driving an unregistered car without insurance...
