my 2004 bmw battery died on me awhile back, and i replaced it with an aftermarket battery that fits the car just right.. it worked really well 4 the first month but soon after i started getting weird codes that came and went. ( like alternator code, and active steering. and car would not start right up alot after that month) does anyone know if it can be the after market battery?

Strange. It's just a battery. BMW really knows how to keep getting the money out of it's car owners. Thanks for the info.

The errors you are getting are common to low voltage in the system.

Most likely the IBS sensor has failed. It prevents a full charge from ever being achieved by the charging system. Don't worry about the 'battery' coding - look at the IBS sensor.
You can test it by simply disconnecting one wire - it will take the IBS offline and thus normal charging will occur.

Also if you are not driving long enough (what BMWNA calls an unfavourable driving profile) the charging system simply can't re-coup the starter loss.

You don't actually... But you have the right to your opinions and inaccuracies.

If you have active steering there is a greater chance that it simply wasn't calibrated - has NOTHING to do with "battery coding."
