You think manufactures are that dumb? The cars computer will flag that like a Christmas tree in multiple places and record it in the computer. Once they plug your car into the diagnostic machine theyll know. Its not 1960 anymore.
correct. the mileage on the E39 was stored in two different locations. I can only imagine that number has increased in the E60. if you plug in another cluster (assuming it was coded the same as your car) it would still light a tamper light (it was a separate LED in the E39, don't know how they handle it now) and the dealer would know the minute they turned on the car.

Unless you want to become someone's bitch in the corner of a jail cell, don't do it. It's a felony to tamper with an odometer. Also, as others stated above, the computer will dime you out!

Why don't you just go steal a new set of wheels while you are at it?

From what i've heard from people who did an M5 cluster upgrade, their miles were carried over to the new cluster! Nice try buster!

Interesting.
correct, during the coding process the mileage info is copied from the other location over to the new cluster. But again, the only place you can get that done is the dealer, so...

I heard if you hold the "Reset" button down for 4 hours with your sunroof open in the middle of a tornado, the odometer goes back a mile.
