He changed his answer to a more polite one because as a limo driver or a woman we know how to be polite, even if somebody is taunting us...

BTW, maybe it was a typo on kryptocat's part but in his post above, he said:
[quote name='kryptokat' date='Jul 23 2005, 07:24 AM']The only situation I can see why you wouldn't want active steering is when you are slowing down in a deep curve like the Highway exit curves I am not sure how active steering is programmed to act. In my experience as you slow down the ratio changes and thus your steering input will have to increase.

If I understand what he's saying correctly, what happens in this case is that as you slow down the ratio changes and your steering input would have to DEcrease, not INcrease. No matter what, in my experiences, it doesn't seem to throw me off one bit. The car simply does what you tell it to do...

Thanks for correcting me

Seems like the only people who diss AS, are those who don't have it.

I am especially touched by your comments.

I didn't know till today that my 530i was cheap, stripped down version because I did not have Active Steering.? I also didn't know that I didn't buy AS because I needed to reassure myself of my macho-ness by muscling around the wheel!

Please don't hold back.? Why don't you let know what a bunch of a**holes everyone who doesn?t own a 545 or a 530 or a 525 with the sport package with AS on this board is? driving an inferior vehicle.

I also don't have nav.? Got a problem with that?

i didn't say yours was the stripped down version, what I did say was that the one the dealer gave me as a loaner was. It just so happens that it didn't have AS. Now if you want to make the quantum leap that all cars without AS are stripped down that's your business! And you were the one that was questioning the manliness of driving with AS! You posted the coment about only women should drive with it. I simply tried to educate you because you seemed confused about "racing" with you're 530. I tried to tell you that driving your 530 a few miles above the speed limit, hitting off ramps and taking tight turns, while all being fun things to do doesn't equal "racing" and doesn't require absolute touch sensative steering! For every off ramp I take quick or corner I round fast, I park my car and/or turn it around in tight spots 50 times! BTW I don't have nav. either but wish I did!

Exactly. Maybe they are bitter because they didn't get a 545 with Sport Package?

Active steering is fine... gives adaquate feed back. better than ANY other brand out there... ok not the exotics... but better than ANY of BMW competitors...

Oh ya and comparing it to a 3 series non active steering (E46) the 3 is shit. HORRID steering feel... it felt cheap compared to the 5. Maybe it was cuz the 3 didnt have sports package? I dont know... but I'm happy with AS

I had reservations about active steering prior to purchase due to the poor press buzz but I am 100% converted. It really is great. When I switch to my wife's car I feel like I am aerobicizing with all the wheel turning.

Another fact that determined me not to buy as is that here we have poor roads. And i don't even want to think of what the costs are to make a geometry with AS. Every car i owned had to go from time to time in service for a geometry because of the craters in the streets. I heard it is quite hard to repair a damgaed steering by geometry with AS to make it work like it was new. Plus here the AS was quite expensive 1500euros or so. And btw i have sport package and don't have AS.
