So, I do like my 530xi ... but if you've seen some of my posts having owned 7series since 1994, moving to a 6 cyl car was a challenge. So, I've been in serious discussions with my dealer about ordering a 550 and even contemplating the European delivery.
I finally had a serious discussion with the spouse about spending another $60K on a 550 and she says, your car is nice but I liked driving your 7's and your 530xi is awfully SLOW and everybody has them! WHY DON'T YOU GET ANOTHER 7?
YIKES - I couldakrapped my pants!!
Anyway I called the GM at my dealership and he was getting ready to turn out the lights ... Said he has a new ('09) 750 with the Sport Package and a few other toys that had been ordered for someone who backed out of the deal. MSRP is slightly over $90K ... he knows my car and said he could do a cash deal for about $40K.
Awfully inviting, since the resale market and trade value for my '07 530xi (30K miles, loaded with most every option / original MSRP = $64K) has hit the toilet. Most BMWs going out of his store are BMWFS leases and I suspect that cash deals earn him more $$s.
The things running thru my mind include:
Same $$ get me a model year up M5 and even fewer $$'s can get me into a loaded 550; heck I could probably swing a deal to buy a 550 and replace my '98 Roadster with a new Z4 !!
Does anyone think the 750, properly optioned, is worth my serious consideration?

For about the same money you could be in a M5. For much less, you could be in a 550. If you can afford the 750, you can afford the M5.
It's a matter of priorities. If you want tons of room and ultra-luxury, get the 7. If you want a kick ass driver's car get the M5 or the 550.

2009 M3. With that car plus mods you will have an AMAZINGLY PIMPED OUT M3 for the price of a 7. I'd get the M3 over the M5 because of the updated body styling and interior.
Then again, if you're over 35, get the 7 series and realize that life is slowly dwindling into the abyss of a Viagra bottle and re-runs of Law & Order. jk jk!

I used to have an e39 528. I was looking at the 750. I drove the 2008 750i sport at the dealer and while the engine was strong, it still felt large and tail heavy.
I then decided I'd seriously look at the 530xi. I figured the 530 e60 had quite a few more horsepower than the 528 e39 so I should be happy. I drove it and it didn't feel very strong to me. The dealer had an 07 550. I drove it ONE BLOCK from the dealer and my mind was made up; I needed 8 cylinders!
I'd love the power of an M5, but the 550 is pretty darn fast. Any more power and I'd probably be getting in trouble.

The M3 would be a desirable toy and I actually thought about something like that for weekend jaunts. And it's a lot cheaper than the Porsche's I've shopped. As for luxury, for the same money I could pick up a low mileage '06/'07 Bentley and it'd be unique enough that I'd not need anything "pimped". As for Viagra, how do you think I made 7-figures last year ... but I still feel badly for you if you see 35 as the other side of the grass.
Personally, being 38, I would love to turn back the clock and be under 35 again. I'd love even more to be 25 again. But I am not and I try to live life to its fullest now. Life goes on after 35 -- it's not over after 35.
As far as cars go, the E60 is much more in line with my need for some room while still maintaining great handling.

Here we go again with the over 30 or 35 crap Howitzer--depending on your age at the time of posting you stupid f*ck. A tiger never changes its stripes, huh? You just never learn, even after apologizing to a 30,000+ member forum. Sounds like you know quite a bit about Law and Order re-runs and Viagra you vapid piece of shi*t. You really should be banned, if for nothing else, for being an uneducated half-wit douchebag. The OP asks a simple question and you have to take it down to this. BTW: Adding "jk, jk," doesn't make it right. Wanna take me on? PM me you dim-witted POS. I'll run intellectual circles aroud your sorry, racist ass.
