All is good now!!!! Insurance covered the replacement less $95 deductable. There's a BMW logo on the glass so I'm assuming it's factory parts. No problem with rain sensors, still works. I asked the repairman what they were charging the insurance company, he said aprox. $450 and he was blown away when I told him BMW wanted $2000.
I don't think anyone does 'pattern' screens for the E60 yet, mine was replaced by Autoglass and again it was an OEM piece.

I caught a rock today and cracked the windshield. I saw the rock fly right into the windshield and it sounded like a bomb went off when it hit. I am glad you prepped me for the cost of this repair. My insurance company told me to go to BMW and get it repaired. I just send them the bill and they send me a check less my $50 deductible. Bummer.

Guys, is it me, or is the E60 windshield kinda sensitive to cracks ?
My car "only" has about 80.000km (roughly 50k miles) and I have like 3-4 kinda big chips in it
In my E36 coupe, the same
Is it only me having bad luck, or are BMW windshields not THAT resistant to chips? I drove around with lots of colleagues in their cars and they never had this problem (or at least as often as I have).....

I know, old thread, but it happened to me just this week.
Came back from vacation and there it was, a crack. No driving, no stuff falling on it or anything.
A crack from the bottom right up about 8 inches. Didn't start in a pit or anything, just from the side.
Luckily i can get it replaced under my insurance with a $0 deductable![Big Grin](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/biggrin.gif)
But still, i'm not that happy that a crack can just suddenly appear!

I have seen this before with another member at the meet. The windshield has cracked up for no reason. Hope you get that repaired quickly and back on the road in no time. ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
