Jsal, Thanks for trying to get this topic back on track. Did you try holding down the pop-up wind defector when the sunroof is in the open position?
I am going to try it on my way home tonight - thanks for the tip.

Since you are in tune with this, how quiet is your sunroof when it is closed. I have some wind noise that is significantly reduced when I close the sun shade. I don't know if this noise was already there and it took me 20k miles to notice it, or if it has gotten worse.

I know this is really subjective and I mentioned it to me dealer to check the adjustment.

I guess I really need to take a new one out and try it to see.

Mine makes a loud poping noise everytime I open and close it... it sounds like the glass is breaking!
The dealer can fix it. It's a known problem on this forum. I had mine fixed.

Now that it is summer time in the US, I now like to drive with the sunroof open. Only problem is that it generates a lot of wind noise -- much more than my previous car. I also noticed that if I pull down the pop-up wind deflector while driving, it gets quieter - much quieter. What is the purpose of the wind deflector? It doesn't seem to deflect much wind and just adds noise. Has anyone removed it?
I've noticed this, too. Used to have the sunroof of my E39 open all the time, but now rearly use it on my E60 b'cause of the noise and "boom". Have been thinking of getting a wind deflector, but they are so ugly.

Same experience here. Wind noise with shade open. Rattles at various times. Vehicle going to dealer next week.

All good info - BUT the question was referring to wind noise with the Sunroof open.

I agree there is a lot of wind noise with the sunroof open, but I thought that was pretty much normal with any sun roof.

I guess the solution is one of those plastic wind deflectors, but I don't like the looks of them.
I thought it was normal too after certain speed.

I tried it on the way home from work on Friday. The deflector does add noise. However, when I hold the deflector down, the air flow seem to be more turbulent. So, I am not sure which is better. I think I will just leave the deflector and put up with the noise.

I noticed on my wifes Volvo, there is not deflector and the turbulent booming of the wind is annoying.

That is the problem with sun roofs - they are noisy when open - especially on the freeway. Nice around town on a warm/sunny day.
