I will preface this by saying I am a noob. I have an '08 550 w/sport package but do not have a sport button by my shifter. The trans is a 6spd steptronic automatic. I am trying to learn about these transmissions but am just confused why I do not have a sport button but the car has the sport package. Any help would be great.

Faster shift times and holding individual gears longer, the sport mode does more than just modify the transmissions behavior -- it also modifies the throttle response and the steering response.

This isn't part of the Sports Package. This is a transmission option -- Sport Auto Tranny.

It doesn't change the steering response on Active Steering equipped cars.

To the OP, it was a $500 option when new. Don't sweat it unless you really want to play with the paddles. The transmission itself is the same, and the option adds no measurable performance increase to the acceleration times.

How do I get it to sport mode, just by simply moving shifter to M/S? I also do not have the paddle shifters.

When you move the steptronic to the left it will show DS in the dash, this is for Drive Sport. The paddle shifters are part of the previously mentioned sport auto package.

Ok, that is what I thought. Why do some have the sport button?

Because they have the sport auto option (paddles) previously mentioned.
