You think so? After seeing the X5/X6M I think BMW has tipped their hand. The next M5 will probably have a TT V10, maybe a NA V12. Either way it will beat 600hp. Its gotta one-up the CTS-V.

If you turbocharge you don't need a v10 or v12 whose benefit are smaller lighter piston which have less recopricating mass and allows for a higher redline. If the engine spins twice as fast, its processing twice as much fuel which means more power. The turbo engines force more fuel mixture so no need for high revs.
They may use the v10 solely so they can use it for racing, certain classes require a certain amount of the engine to be made each year in production cars to qualify for racing engine use.

I think there is NO way a 10 cylinder will find it's way into the F10 M5.
The never ending race for fuel efficiency and increasingly tough emissions standards will basically not permit BMW to build 10 cylinders.
I also think that there is no future for NA engines for BMW.
Sucks

Tougher CAFE rules, tougher emissions and dwindling consumer acceptance of a 600hp plus car with single digit MPG are driving my thinking here.
Doesn't necessarily need more power to one-up the CTS-V. My guess - the next M5's party trick will be significant weight reduction.
BMW is already priming buyers to expect a future M3 with less power than the current model - but much lighter. I think the F10 M5 will be the car that blazes this trail for BMW.

that being said, my money is on the next m5 being a diesel.

Really, though how many people would put up with single digit MPG, 600HP, crappy emissions, and a TT V10?
