My suspicion is that the reflector is the issue too, and I am certain that the new kit will have the reflectors on the side. From my recollection though, you won't be too sad about that either!
Yup. And I should be OK because my aero-kit will be factory installed. I'm sure that they'll figure out the port thing, but jeez, it's really a pain. Can't wait to see your pics . . .

I can't see why they don't US install M Kit from factory. It's a total waste of resources.

BMW093,
Why are they futzing with an 07 aero kit? Why not install the same kit that is being installed on the US MY 08 550's?

And congratulations on receiving your car.

A great question, and one I thought of last night after it finally hit me (duhhh) that the 550 sport has an aero kit on it that has cleared all DOT regs. All I can think is that one or a combination of the following is at play 1) the port and dealer don't have those parts yet, 2) that BMW wants the 550 sport to stay unique for a while and so are holding off making a kit available, 3) a separate LCI kit is in the works but not out just yet, 4) BMW will only sell the 550 sport pieces individually and so the price of the kit is a beast, 5) they simply haven't thought of what you propose.

I have no idea, but I'll tell you that you're gonna love your car!!

Why would they install the SAME kit as the 550i? The 550i is a unique vehicle, esp. with the sport package. Making the kit availble for other cars in the 5er range would undermine this.

I'm sorry? perhaps I have not been following all threads about this but since when is the aero kit installed on the 550i different? Can somebody direct me to the thread with pics? I always thought that the kit would be the same.

I think that the aero-kit is in fact the same. However a few things have changed for the US LCI.

First, the aero kit is now installed at the factory for the 550 only. It still needs to be installed at the VPC for the 528 and 535 (don't ask us why!).

Second, the aero kit now needs to include the amber side reflectors that were previously integrated into the US headlamp cluster. We know that the LCI aero kit being installed on 550s at the factory includes those reflectors. We're presuming that aero kits are not being installed on 528s and 535s at the VPC because they do not have kits that include the reflectors.

I know that this is nonsense, but does it make sense??!!

I feel the same way--I understand it, but don't understand the logic behind it. I think 550 ZSP owners have it best because the aero parts are installed at the factory. I have heard of bad installations at the port (esp. Jersey City) and other issues with matching paint, scrapes, and other deficiencies due to port installation. The 550 ZSP owners are sitting pretty! I think a kit will come out one day for the rest, which will look very similiar to the 550 ZSPs, but my 'guess' would be 3-6 months, at the earliest.

Well there is no issue you with you just getting the 550i kit...it is absolutey no different from the one your waiting for. Just call the parts dept get the price for the 550i sport front, rear bumper & side skirts and you are there, the price is no different just because it is a 550i.

More so I think that the amber reflector on the side does not look good at all, The first thing you have to do is find the Euro Clear reflector to go in the same place. To be honest I rather that there was no reflector at all on the bumper.

In my case I am putting my '06 M-Kit on my new '08. Having no reflectors looks much better, sure it won't be DOT certified and legal, but looks much better!

Peace
