Hello to everyone I'm owner of 545 since 2006 and didn't have any major problems till now. The problem is my car electrical system is not working, I can't even start it, i Drive monitor blinking, when I press brake radio turns off, I can hear something cracking from my dash, car shows all error messages.
My neighbour griend who gave me this forum told me that it may be battery issue but I don't think that battery can make that much problem. I don't remember exactly built month of my car but I remeber it's year 2004. My car is out of warranty around 70k miles. Sorry for my bad english

i can be the battery... I dont recall hearing your exact problem... but with the electronics on the car even if a weak battery with low voltage can kick lots of errors. but I'm not sure... its really hard to say. maybe someone has had your problems...

It is the battery controller shutting down all other elements which is not necessary to keep the car alive. There could two possibilities, A) Your battery is dead and is need of charging or changing, Your alternator is not giving charge to the battery so its being drained out. Either ways its nothing major, dealer should be able to fix it in a jiff, if you charge your battery on your own or replace on your own, most of the error msgs will disappear except for the Active Steering Reset and Air Bag or Passenger Restraint system error for which you have to go to the dealer for a reset. It happened to me when I just bought the car, so I can understand the shock you are going through. Dont worry its not a big deal. TC

Thanks guys for your fast replys, I'll change battery as soon as possible, The only issue I had before is HUD display was shuting down with radio when I changed the gears sport mode on cold weather, That's why I thought it can be battery too.

hi guys,
i just purchased a 2005 545i sport , 6 speed manual. What a fun car to drive, i just cant stop. When i was buying the car the battery was completely dead, i could'nt even adjust the seats. Upon charging the battery, many lights lid up on the panel, including, air bag, seat belt, active steering and check engine. I went to a local shop, friend of mine, and he restarted several codes. NOw all i have is the active steering light on. Is this a problem or he just wasn't able to reset it? and on the idrive panel it says i need to check my break fluid. IS this connected? has anyone had this problem? thanks

I also have a 2005 545i, SMG, and just last week had the same experience. Over the last 6 months or so, I noticed that my car would crank hard, and I too had a number of error messages, including active suspension warning. Ironically, I never received a low battery warning. Also, the morning that I was to take it in for service, the car would not start, and I had to call roadside assistance. The guy and I agreed that it was a dead battery, and we jump started the car.
The dealer tried to recharge the battery 3 times and each time it failed a load test. So they replaced the battery. My car was built in October 2004. So, maybe this is a common problem.

Ya I forgot to say... I had my battery replaced after about 3 years... so these batteries are only really good for three years.

When I had the weak battery and it didnt start up when cranked the first time it lights up like a Christmas tree... but once it starts up its fine... I only had that happen twice before I got the car to the dealer.
