Hi guys. Am shortly to take the plunge into E60 ownership but I'm unsure as to the model to go for. basically I have a max of ?14k to spend. I am looking at cars on a 53/04 plate with 60k - 80k for this but there are 520i's, 525d's, 525i's and 530d's available. I know the benefits of the six pot diesels but have been somewhat put off by horror stories of failed turbos and destroyed engines on performance bmw diesels so am a tad nervous. The thing is the other half doesn't want anything too thirsty but I don't want anything too slow. So I guess my questions are: What are the 520i's and 525i's like for performance and economy and do the turbo diesels go pop?

Hey - you'll have a hard time getting a 530d, I think. I just took delivery of one, love it - great mileage, cost me approx 15,5k. I'll be interested to see any views on the turbos lasting / not lasting...
