Feb '04 build, March 30, 2004 delivery here. I'm the second owner. It was the first, or one of the first, delivered in Kansas City. The previous owner was sent to Germany by the Navy after he finished his masters there (they'd told him he'd be staying stateside -- surprise!!). He didn't want to ship the car, so I got a heck of a deal. Picked it up down there a year ago New Year's day. Hauled down the winter tires (Dunlop winter sports on 17" wheels) and drove back in snow and ice. With those tires and the traction/stability control the woman who took me down was having trouble keeping up in her Chevy Colorado (pickup) with four wheel drive!!
Now has 33k (miles) -- runs like a smooth, solid clock!! Lovin every day of it!!
Only thing I'd look at if picking the options myself would be:
Head's up display (My parents have it one in their Buick and it really is nice -- esp when you're always wanting to stay just 5-10 mph over the speed limit like I am! And it sorta hurts to admit they have something on their Electra I'd like on my E60!!!)
Fold down rear seats
Premium package. The guy who ordered it didn't want the wood trim, and the only way he could 'de-select' that was to skip the Premium package. I"ve got the leather sport seats, so I'm just missing the homelink (no biggy) and self-dimming mirror (no real biggy either -- just the "it should have it for this kind of money" factor). As for the titanium look trim -- some days I like it better than the wood (more sporty), some days I think the wood would be classier (more luxurious).
SMG -- would like to drive one of these someday and see. I looked all over the country for a 6 spd, sport package. Just like the direct feel of no torgue converter and the shifting too - most times I guess (I've been doing it for about 40 years now, and the "kid" still likes it!)
