i had mine replaced a couple of years ago, and I had the same dilema you had. BMW vs Safelite. My insurance would not pay for BMW to do it, so I ended up having Safelite do it, and it ended up being a BMW winshield anyway.. So it was a win-win situation in my case....

Whoa $2000? $1500???

I have had my windshield replaced twice already.

I have HUD and it is more expensive.

Dealership quoted me $800 the first time. But I talked the SA into putting it under warranty so they did it for free.

The second time I was going to pay $800 and my guy at Luxury Motors got me the BMW factory windshield for $500!

WOW!!! My quote was directly from the dealer. I suppose location matters. There may be a lot more dealers near you aznd therefore the prices are more competitive

It is a comprehensive claim, but still count as claim filed. I totaled my truck for work in February and they paid that off. Right now I don't want another claim against me, I don't want to be canceled due to their "underwritten criteria" for too many claims.
I'm surprised. I have Allstate and I have a $100 windshield replacement with my policy. My deductible is normally $500.

When I had my 330 I had the windshield replaced at BMW and went through my insurance, I didn't pay a thing. Why don't you go through your glass coverage with your insurance carrier? Unless you don't have glass insurance.

+1 with HUD and rain sensing wipers, you need the special windshield. After you fix it...get glass coverage from your insurance company...$1500+ here for the windshield
I've got the rain sensing wipers (2004 530), but no heads up. Got a non-BMW replacement installed in my driveway for $315. It's been in place for about 6 weeks, and seems fine. Used Apache Glass in Houston, which is worthless info for you...

...but it lets me know that non-BMW windshields will do fine.

Thanks

I'm located in beautiful San Dimas.
I'm in Claremont...that 210 fwy is a killer! I've had to have 2 windshields replaced, the first one had bmw logo on the glass the current one doesnt' and really doesn't matter to me anyway, you cant really tell the difference. You should call your insurance company, my 2 replacements were less than $100 out of pocket (the last one they were running a special and only cost $75!) Your insurance shouldnt go up since it wasn't your fault and they'll send someone to you!

Not sure if this is applicable for you guys in the states, but here in the UK you can pay ?50 excess and get the insurance company (well depending on your policy of course) to fix it. They'll get one of the specialist companies to come out to your house/workplace and fix it for you there and then.
