should i wait for the new engine? will the power be that noticable?
Damn straight you should wait for the new engine. Now that the Euro has stabilized a bit, you may not see such a drastic price increase when the model year turns over (as we did for 2004). I say: Get your money's worth! (and I'm sure you'll notice the power difference).

This is probably the last upgrade to these engines until the new 3 Series arrives next summer, and even then these engines will probably still remain the same at the introduction of that car. I'm not sure if these latest versions of the inline sixes have any of the other new technologies we have been hearing about like magnesium engine components, direct injection, etc., but I doubt it. Unless you can get an incredible deal on a 2004 model OR you can wait at LEAST another year and a half for brand spankin' new engines, get the 2005.

I think these _are_ the new E90 engines: Valvetronic, Magnesium/Aluminum blocks, etc.

I could be wrong, but from info on some other sites, it looks like these are the next gen I6's.

Just curious, was this info from Roadfly, Bimmerfest or some other site?

I think from bimmerfest and germancarfans.com. The GCF forums claim that this is the new motor for the upcoming 630ci. I saw some stuff on m5board.com about this motor, too.

You know how rumors fly around the Internet. I could be talking completely out of my ass.

The updated 3 liter engine will be introduced in the 630Ci starting September 2004, this is a fact.

Most likely the E60 will get the updated version as well because production resumes after the summer holidays (which also is September) and at that moment BMW will introduce major changes/updates and in addition, it wouldn't make much sense to have two different versions of the same engine being mounted into cars in the same plant since both the 5 and 6 Series are built in the Dingolfin plant in Germany.

I was at the dealer today and asked about the engine change. The salesrep didn't even know what I was talking about. 630??? He didn't even know there is gonna be a 630. He told me that in the service bulletins of BMW nothing was said to the salespeople about the engine change or other changes for 2005. The only change BMW has told the salesreps about is the 535D (diesel) for 2005.

I'm gonna ask another dealer tomorrow cose I need to know.

530E60NL - I would suggest talking to another dealer. Mine already said that a 630Ci would become available around September. He said this to me something like more than 1/2 year ago!
