New Valvetronic I6 Engines for the 525 & 530
"BMW's latest generation 3.0l inline 6 engine will be launched this September as the new base engine for the 6 series. It will then gradually replace the current 3.0l i6 engine in all other model ranges."
New engine generates 258 HP at 6,600 rpm with a maximum torque 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at 2,500 rpm.
Current engine pumps out 231 HP at 5,900 rpm / 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at 3,500 rpm).
I guess the 525 and 530 will get the new engines starting March 2005 production if not right away in September.

I think it will be noticable due to the simple fact that the 300 Nm of torque is already there at 2500rpm in stead of 3500rpm, which will result in the engine/car being more responsive and driving smoother, so I think the wait will be well worth it IMO.
I'm disappointed that the new 3.0l will only produce 258hp. You can get 235hp with the current 3.0l in a 330i with the Performance Package. The Japanese competition has 300hp V6s coming very soon.
ethanbmw,
Here's my two cents. I recommend waiting for the new more powerful engines. I would have purchased a 530i, but I felt the car needed more horse power. I suggest test driving the current 530i to see if the current engine has enough power for you.

I see this new engine has Valvetronic, but does anyone know if is it using the new Magnesium block or Direct injection as well?
