My Ride: Retired: 2007 530i Silver Gray/Gray Leather, premium/sport/logic 7/hd radio/comfort access/park distance control
2010 535i M Sport Alpine White/Black premium/M-Sport,L7,Sat,HD Radio/Paddle Shifters/heated seats/comfort access/navigation/sport gear stick
Picking up my new 07 530i on Tuesday so excited and learned so much on this forum. Originally was happy with buying a 525i but the forum swayed me to the 530 and so glad they did.
One question with the Logic 7 for the time being all I want to do is listen to my ipod thru the aux input. I keep reading this is in the back of the unit, can you access it or do you have to have some other option added?
Thanks

In the past, Aux input had to be added by your dealer. It is a 1/8" stereo input jack that was usually placed in the glovebox. On newer vehicles that come with Aux input standard, the jack is located somewhere on the rear console (I haven't seen this yet). Cars with Aux input are programmed so "Aux Input" will be an additional option in the entertainment interface.
There is also an actual iPod kit that connects to the iPod dock connector on the bottom of your iPod. This offers some control over the iPod itself (skipping songs, selecting playlists, etc.). Unfortunately, this was somewhat poorly implemented, and is more expensive than a normal Aux input, which can also be used for other things.

The aux input (on US cars at least) is now standard but is placed, bizarrely, on the rear console. You can run a stereo mini jack cable from the iPod's headphone output into the aux in jack then select aux as the entertainment source. A much better option is to use the line level output from the iPod's dock connector. Monster and others make combined chargers/line level outputs that use the dock connector, you can then run the stereo mini jack cable from the dock connector to the aux in. They tend to be better because they bypass the headphone circuitry and there is no need to fiddle around with the volume setting to adjust the output level.

In the European cars it's in the same place (centre console at rear). And it has the same function (i.e. sound only).
