My Ride: 08 535i sport
I just picked up a new to me 2008 535 and I noticed during the day the taillights are on(not the break lights) with the head lights switched off. Is this normal? I also noticed if I turn off the day time running lights the taillights will shut off. I called the dealer and couldn't get a straight answer.

Not normal in Canada. Only front DRL are on all the time, nothing in rear. BTW, no iDrive settings available either.

in Canada (and some other countries) DRL's are required by law, so iDrive control over that setting will be absent in said countries...

It is normal for 2008 and up for US cars. If you have Daytime Running Lights activated the rear parking lights are also on. (those nice little tubes and the side 4 led dots) If you turn off DRL then they'll be off too. I actually really like them. Look very nice during the day.
