Just picked up my 2004 545I. Car was producced 07/2004. The car is supposed to have the premium sound system. It does have the Logic 7 controls thru the Ipod.

It does not have the CD changer in the glove box... I thought it came automatically with the premium sound.. Am I wrong??

Regards,
Stephen B.

A little clarity would help. Yes, for car produced in 2004, the Premium Sound (Logic 7) did include the 6-disc changer in the glove box (at least in the U.S.). You mention Logic 7 controls through the iPod? If you see Logic 7 controls in the iDrive, then you have it. If you wanted iPod connectivity in an '04, you had to take out the 6-disc changer and use that connection for the iPod. I did just that in my old 545 so I had no 6-disc changer. Does the car have the iPod connection in the glove box? If so, that's what happended...

Hi,

Thanks, I will check for the I-pod connection. All I saw last night was a blank plate where the changer should be.

Maybe some other Canadians can chime in, but maybe in Canada the Logic 7 option did not include the changer. As I said, it did for U.S. cars in 2004...

When you say "It does have the Logic 7 controls thru the Ipod", do you mean the iDrive? If you see the Logic 7 logo and controls in the iDrive menu, you have it...

Hello again,

Sorry, I do mean IDrive. I can scroll to the Logic 7, Equalizer, etc. menu. I checked in the glovebox and around the dash of the car. I could find no input "jack" for an ipod or for an "auxiliary in" .

I will have to remove the blank plate in the glove box and see what is behind there. The spec sheet that I used when purchasing the car from BMW Canada said, premium sound, logic 7 among other options. I made the assumption(perhaps incorrectly) that the premium sound/logic7 option included the CD changer.

Thanks for the tips.

Regards,
Stephen B.

CD Changer is NOT included in the Logic7 upgrade. And I don't believe AUX in was either. Definitely not in 2004/5 for CDN models

I have a 04 545i w/Logic7. My CD chager is located right between my heating seats buttons. Altough theres only one opening for CD but it accepts all 6. Check your I-drive to see how many CD's it shows, 1or6 ?

Really? I have never heard of BMW doing the in-dash 6-disc like that. I know my '04 545 had the 6-disc changer in the glove box, came that way from the factory...

Theres the answer isnt it? If you have iPod connection that means the previous owner gave up the CD changer in exchange for iPod connection.

For older E60s that was the only way to get iPod connection... thru the CD changer input.

In order to install the BMW iPod adaptor you must remove the cd changer. Most likely your car came with a cd changer but then had the iPod retrofit performed.
