Hello all. New here and to the world of BMW. I'm soon to be purchasing a used vehicle and have narrowed it down to a 06 or 07 530i. I've been lurking around a few forums trying to gather as much info as I can and to be honest with all of you after much reading BMW seems to definitely have their fare share of problems, it seems more so than other brands. I'm getting nervous about buying this vehicle. I have chosen these years and model for budget and it seems to be the most reliable. Tell me I'm crazy or should I just start looking at G37s or C classes?

do you do your own wrenching? if not, dont get a bmw. lol

 

Do some research and logical math. Go to your other choices forums and see what they are like. I think you'll find all cars have all kinds of problems. Now weight the sales numbers vs the members here, with the understanding that the vast majority of the members are here trying to find answers to problems. You know people don't come here to report how their experience was trouble free. If you want trouble free, buy a honda. If you want some luxury with power and especially handling, then you're considering the right thing. Now for the hard truth, any one of your choices are going to be expensive to keep.

 

Unless you are BMW DIY savvy, get a G37. definitely more reliable

 

You can't compare E60 with C-class MB.
I have both of them.

 

my dad has a FULLY LOADED 2012 g37s, even the dealer installed light up door sills

no problems, just changes the oil and other small maintenance

he had a 2008 g35, it was the same body style as the 2012 but had the 3.5 engine. same thing, not a single unscheduled dealer visit.

 

Thanks guys! As I said before this would be my first bmw and European car. It is going to have around 80 to 100 miles on it at purchase. I love working on my own vehicles but I'm not to sure if I'll be out of my league and also the cost of ownership.

 

the short answer is yes.

BMWs are still enthusiast cars. They're like owning boats. You are constantly maintaining the car, because you love to do it.

If you're after a high-performance luxury car that will also give you reliability, get something Japanese. If you must have a BMW, go lease a new one.
