I am considering buying a used 5 series. I am looking to spend about 25-26k. I am seeing 07' 525i w/ 30-50k miles. I really like the 5 series but, whichever car i buy next i will be holding onto for awhile. More than likely, the bmw i buy will have little to no warranty left. I dont want to spend an arm an a leg fixing this car. i realize most things will be more expensive like oils changes and things like that. I know a certified bmw master mechanic that typically charges half of what the dealership would charge, so that will help. Ultimately, I want to know how reliable these cars are once you get into higher mileage territory. any advice would be great

You buying into a virtually bullet-proof motor. The n52's are virtually using 80 year old bmw technology... Only tid-bits to check on are battery condition, cooling system components, control arm bushings... the usuals.. induction system service could be considered to improve efficiency, shocks around 80k? Transfluid ? Fuel filter 60k? Its a solid motor.
