Hello, it's my first topic here, unfortunately it's about the problem.

I'm an owner of 2004 E61 525d manual for 2 years, the car had 106 000 km now has 140 000 km done.
After one maybe two months of driving it I recognised such problem: when slightly accelerating, the engine is choking for a while at 1400 or 1500 rpm...

Also when slowing down using an engine only, I can feel not linear rpm decrising, but there is slight pulling of the car...

Another problem is very big turbo lag after gear change... sometimes it takes even one second when the car accelerate again after gear change.

I'm also not happy with power delivery under 1500 rpm when trying to quickly accelerate. Before 1500 rpm there is no power, than after 1500 there is power explosion.

There is no any faults on board computer, also no faults at GT1 or other diagnostic device. I'm driving such faulty car for more than 35000 km and there is no any change, worse or better. I used to drive in such power delivery conditions...

Obviously it should be a problem with turbocharger. Replacing it could solve all. But there is another problem: the money. And not 100% sure if the turbocharger replacing solve all problems. So I'm trying to learn more about it.

Probably the problem concern VTG mechanism.

As I know there are 3 sections of turbocharger, which are delivered as one part, but it may be also spourced as aftermarket used parts separately (may anyone confirm it, pls): 1. turbocharger, 2. electronic module, 3. electric engine which changes VTG instantly.

Once I was told that it seems like problem with mechanical part of VTG steering system. There is a bolt or sth like, which transfer an electric engine movement onto turbocharger inside parts, and it may cause the problems... I'm not expirienced with underbonet issues and can't find it...

I'm just trying to avoid spending a lot of money if it's not necessary, maybe someone have any expirience? Any help is very welcome.

Check all the small vaccum hoses which have a fabric covering under the engine cover. They run along the length of the engine at the air intake side. Given your miliage the hoses can crack and this can lead to loss of power. I have a 535d and have this problem with 145K Km. There are quite a lot of them to change, the 2 under the inlet manifold are challenging! You will probably see fraying of the fabric which covers the hoses.
