Finally have 1000 miles on the car, and the end of the 1200 dealer recommended break in is finally in sight!

At about 850 miles, i started to push the break in a bit, running the car to 4500 rpm, and at 1000, moved it up to 5000.

When I got home tonight, the "new engine" smell (neoprene or whatever the chemical is called) had a very strong odor, probably 'cause I ran it strong most of the way home...

Anyone recall how long that new smell will last? The car was ticking for awhile....very amusing.

Ciao....and thanks.

The "new engine" smell is like the "new wife" smell. They don't last long. Mine went away (engine smell) at about 2000miles.

new engine smell will start to go a few days after you start "pushing" the car...
the ticking noise is porbably brakes, and they always do this when hot (on every car), even after break-in but it can also be other break-in parts.

i've seen some cars pushed so hard early on, that they lost that smell first 200miles in...

The ticking could be the exhaust. Mine does this more than any other car I have owned.
