BMW Netherlands announced today the arrival of a 4 cylinder, 2 litres diesel called 520d.
The car has a variable turbo, top speed 223 km/h, a fuel usage of 5.9 ltr / 100km. power is 163hp.
Well, I did not expect another 4 cylinder 5 series again.
The e34 model was available here with a 1800 cc 4 cyl engine and that was a nightmare to drive in (113hp and 1360kg)

You cannot compare the antique E34 diesel engine with these new ones.

My Ride: 530dA Touring (E39), servotronic, multi functional sport steering, Dark Blue Metalic, M-sport suspension, 225/15" standard alloy wheels (summer and winter tires), NAVIGATION PROF, Leather seat beige, automatic airco, 6 CD pack payer, 195.000km
I drove the 520D last Tuesday. I'm was amazed by it's performance. It is so silent for a 4 cilinder. Acceleration similar to my 530D (E39) and less noisy. Couldn't believe it. I drive a Beamer with 6 cylinders from 1983 onwards and never could convince myself to buy a 4 cil. Now I don't find a good argument anymore not to buy this car with a 4 cil. Even the sound of the engine is OK.

Hello Vorst and welcome to the Forum.

No I didn't and I don't want to consider these 530i/530d because it is very heavily taxed in Belgium. I'm sure 530d/530i is still more fun but I'm happy that the 520d is better then I ever could imagine. Also nice is the fact that it is more environmental friendly consumes less and has a much higher reselling value.
