Hello everyone on this forum! I've been a loyal BMW owner for 13 years, but I regret that my first post here is a melancholy one. I picked up my CPO 535xi last Tuesday and drove it a wonderful 3 hours home. My wife then took it to the local Shoprite where it was hit in the parking lot while she was shopping. No note.

Then during the storm last Saturday, I was carefully driving through 5-7 inches of water when a hooligan in a truck came barreling the opposite way (on his side of the road the water was far deeper). The wall of water he created completely engulfed the front of my 535 and the engine stalled. I then tried starting the car numerous times to no avail. In hindsight however, if I hadn't done this, 2 of my connecting rods may not be bent.

Long story short, I've reported the incident to my insurance company and the car is sitting at Princeton BMW with a looming $25,000.00 bill to replace the engine and both turbos. I've searched long and hard for this car (every option possible and in pristine condition) and I know I will not find it again. My fear is that they will move to total the car.

And thoughts and/or ideas?

At this point I would hope that the insurance company totals the car. Even if they replace the engine there may be other issues that you don't know about yet being under that much water. To me the car will never be the same. You can always find another one...

Good luck.

I understand your concerns, but the SA says that there is a very high possibility they will NOT total the car. However, by reading the previous similar posts on this forum, it seems as though others who had this problem had theirs totaled. The waiting game and anxiety is killing me!

That sucks. That hooligan was a redneck I assume? Testing out his "nice" wheels on his 82 Ford Bronco?

Yes I was just trying to be mild. It was a mid-90's Dodge diesel. I only know this because I heard him gun it before he hit the water. I would love to claim the $25,000.00 against HIS insurance.

That sucks. Well if they total it and you can't find another 535xi, you could get a 550 and get a set of winter wheels with snows. I agree that if it has been flooded you may be better off with another ride.
