So my battery is about to shit the bed (4 years old) and I'm looking to see where other members are getting their batteries from. Dealer, local parts store, Sears, etc.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

From what I gathered reading as many threads as I could and information as I could as I have an 07 with 3.5 year old battery and was contemplating replacement provactively was you can use any battery equivelent-non bmw, and it seems like you should have it registered at the dealer or by a bmw shopt (dealer will only do an OEM battery) or else you risk the battery draining much earlier-like within months to 1 year or unpredictably. Apparently car knows how charged the battery is and accordingly uses the altnerator to charge it. If you put a new battery in without registration it wont know it is new and will overcharge it--that is what I gathered.

Yet some people stuck a battery in and never registered and were fine after a couple years.

I figure for piece of mind I am just going to go the dealer route with registration. Getting stuck with a dead battery is such a pain its worth the couple extra hundred to buy another 5 years of life

i've done a bit of reading about the battery replacement and decided to just do it myself (no registration) since i plan on using a battery with the same specs (720 CCA).
i was just wondering what other members currently have a preference for, how much you paid, where did buy etc.
