11% power increase in the base model is actually a big deal. Think of it this way .. with some minor mods, another 11% increase and the 550 will have more torque than the E60 M5 and at 400hp.

...its not going to be that close to the M5 at all, it will be quick, but not M5 power, and modding is not really an option for the E60
also realize that the 550i will command a significant premium in price over the current 545i as BMW moves it upclass
...i dont think it will be worth the difference for .02 of a sec 0-60, imho

I think I will go ahead and get the 540. The lease on my current Car (Audi A6 4.2) is up in two weeks but can extend for a month or so.
The revised specs for the car is now Silver Gray mettalic, Black interior with the the dark maple wood, Logic 7, Sirius sattelite, Sport,Nav, winter pack and folding rear seats. Chickened out of HUD!
Deal is 813 per month with about 2700 down 36 months 12k /year.
If any one can get a better deal I will revisit my dealer specially now that he's messed up my original order.
I am really looking forward to driving the SMG although I have heard some horror stories about the SMG from some owners. The consensus on this forum however seems that SMG are great once you get used to it.

By the way my dealer just confirmed 550 will ship from mid to end of October this year
