Znod, you had me a little worried about your listing that included the Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 0-60 of 4.4 sec., so I looked it up and it is the SRT8 version. Not exacty your typical SUV and a lot less likely to be encountered.

I'm sure everyone is enjoying their big V8s with the nice warm weather lately. Here is a new trick of mine. Just don't try it at home.

Assume your ready to right turn onto a fairly busy four lane road (two lanes in each direction). Look for the approach of a nice performance ride in the outer lane. Make sure its going about 40 to 50 mph. As it approaches, make a slow and lazy entry in the nearest lane before the car passes you. The driver should be thinking he'll blow by given his speed advantage. As the E60 straightens out (with sport selected), nail your throttle all the way down and wait until the E60 attains the same or slightly greater speed. He'll be suprised as it happens in a blink of an eye. For extra impact, make a semi-dramatic but safe lane change in front of the other car. Nothing reckless just real sporty.

This method is a nice way to display the E60's acceleration and gives you a thrill as well. Did this to a relatively new A8 yesterday. Not racerboy stuff, just semi aggressive fun. I was probably under the speed limit too.

Even my wife thought this was fun.

haha, good story. Its even MORE fun in an M5...

Good stuff, I'd rather take the turn a little hot though.

Yeah, lots of fast cars out there. As long as I don't get beat by a cherokee or a dodge ram, I don't really mind though.

But, what happens at the next light if the car was, for example, one of these relatively modest performers--not to mention the real screamers? I make it a practice not to sort of embarass my "superiors."

Hey Znod

You got to turn and run before the next light.

Your our man to remind us of these terrible perils. Alas, there is comfort that the sub-5 car list might represent less than 1% of the cars out on the road.

I think you've got it right. Just smile and turn right. The perils are all to real. But with them we need not deal.

Actually, I prefer the reverse: My exit to work off the Interstate is two lanes and has two rather sharp curves over it's nearly half-mile length. I enjoy having someone (often a kid as it is the Univeristy exit also) or even better, some guy is truck/SUV try to muscle me along the main road. At the Exit, I hold off and let them grab the advantage as we get onto the 2 lane off ramp. Then, I downshift to 3 or 2, and position myself to come on strong, right in the first left curve. I accelerate hard through it and then set up for the next one (less sharp) right, and then get ready to jump into the more open of the two lanes and through the traffic light, onto the city street at the end of the exit.

In other words, I like to play with the tires and suspension as well as the throttle. Only problem is you don't get to see the look on their faces as I power away in that curve, but it's almost as amusing to see them struggle to keep it on the road. Some actually nod at the stoplight, but most never recover before I'm long gone onto the next piece of fourlane.

Would love to have one of those sub-5 listed Jeeps, Cadillacs, or anything else in our weight class try this exercise with me....

Cheers,
Ray Hull

Seeing truck suspensions rearing up ugly in the rearview mirror can be quite amusing.
