There will not be a 545 or 645 or 745 when this is released...it will go 550i/650i/750i.....

This is what I understand as well. Can you please dig up, where you got this from. I would be very interested. It would make sense as BMW has to up the bar to:

1) Bridge the gap between the current 545 and the E60M5.
2) Keep up with the beasts that are coming from Ingolstadt and Stuttgart.

So the picture I see for 2008 is:

550, 650, 750 will be 4.8L or 5.0L V8s
760 is the flagship Luxoboat as a 6.0LV12

M5 with 500hp V10 is the ultimate sports sedan.
M6 with 550hp V10s is BMWs ultimate Sports GT. Watch out Ferrari and SLR

Ummm....
Does all this mean there will be a NEW 535i and/or 540i with a V8 coming out SOON, (like the article in AutoExpress says)
.........or not?

the 3.0turbo making ~3.5displacement will appear in a 335i model,

i do not know if it would be offered in the 5er, but there is supposed to be a new 4.0V8 which would be in 740i and then prob 540i

I guarantee you that it will not

This interenet this blowing things way out of porportion.

The new 550's engine which is NOT the 4.8 Litre valvetronic engine in the X5, and you will NOT see it as a 2006 model in the E60.

Geezes... where the heck do you guys come up w/ these stuff??!!

Here is the post from bimmerfest: it will be quite dissapointing if BMW will launch 550 after a year of 545 and will give 40HP upgrade

Wow!! New information concerning product launches!! MUST READ

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just return from my dealer in Belgium. While he was calculating a quote on a E90 for me, I just happened to see an internal note. And this is true, it's not a fary tale. To be expected in 2005:

130i with 258hp,
740i with 299hp,
750i with 367 hp,
650i idem,
550i idem,
745d with 299hp
330d no hp specified
3-touring in september (like we knew)!!

so, no rumour, but reality!

Cheers

WOW! 745d looks abit underpowered. It has 1500cc more than the 535d yet only 27bhp more.

It should be 330i with 258hp. Not 130i with 258hp.

They could put the new 3.0 in the 1 series.

This Bimmerfest post may be the "source" of rollee's other post on this e60 board about the import/sale of a 2006 550i in Canada. Interesting how an "internal note" (whatever that means, perhaps a speculative e-mail between BMW salesmen) suddenly becomes an official announcement from BMW.

The parts system at the dealer already shows a 535i badge, this is not the 535d badge which is a different part number.

550i was also regestered as a tademark by bmw in the USA

Now will the 535i be a V8 or just the new R6 engine ???????

Hasn't an E34 V-12 550i already existed? Is it possible that is the trademark registration you are referring to, or was the trademark just recently registered?

Wishful thinking. The M6 marketing piece already up on the BMW international site indicates that it will have exactly the same 5.0l V10 as the M5, which outputs 507 bhp.

All this speculation about new BMW engines is getting tiresome. Development of a new V8 (rather than just boring up an existing one) is a very costly endeavor, which costs can be recovered only by (i) charging a large fee for the cars having that engine (a la M series); or (ii) amortizing the cost over a large sales volume of cars having the engine (cumulative sales of 5, 6 and 7 series with new v8). Regardless of what Mercedes is doing to "catch up" to the rest of the world in hp, it is unlikely that BMW will be rushing new v8 engines to market just to follow Mercedes' desperate bid to catch up.

Guys,

Did anyone actually read this article properly???

"Six-cylinder 2.6 and 3.0-litre petrol models are likely, while diesel fans will be catered for by a 3.0-litre straight-six or the new 3.5-litre V8, which makes its debut this month in the 5-Series."

The first 2 engines are petrols whilst the second two they are talking about are the 530d and the twin turbo 535d, not a new petrol V8. The reference to the V8 configuration is just an error. Re-read the paragraph.
