In the new Autoexpress there is an article about a new BMW model, and the author states the following :

"Six-cylinder 2.6 and 3.0-litre petrol models are likely, while diesel fans will be catered for by a 3.0-litre straight-six or the new 3.5-litre V8, which makes its debut this month in the 5-Series". (sixth paragraph down)

Anyone hear anything about this?

I would love to see a 535I V8 come out - hopefully they wouldn't have to kill us with the price hit. The car is already "pricey".

I don't believe 3.5L V8 would become available for 5er. I mean, the price difference between 545 and 530 (comparatively optioned) is only about $6,000. This gap is too small to have another model wedge in.

However, a 635i and 735i for $6,000 (if extrapolated from above) below current 4.5L price sounds really tempting. I would think really hard choosing between a 545i and 735i if they had the same price and options.

There are new 6 cylinder engines coming out shortly, they will be 2.5, 3.0 (R6) and 3.0 turbo (~3.5displacement), there will not be a 3.5V8

as for the V8's, there will be a 4.0 (m3 first) and then 4.8 (to make 750i/650i/550i?)

You never mentioned the NEW BMW! The 3-MAX 7 seat MPV.

Looks just like a 3 series touring to me.

The parts system at the dealer already shows a 535i badge, this is not the 535d badge which is a different part number.

550i was also regestered as a tademark by bmw in the USA

Now will the 535i be a V8 or just the new R6 engine ???????

from what I've read, the it may not be available in the 5series, its looking primarily for the new E90 3er's and it will be a 3.0 turbo making ~3.5L displacement

there will probably be a 540, though, when the new 4.0v8 is launched

I totally agree with you that if BMW register 550i as a trademark in USA, it'll be available next year or so. It happened to Toyota that had RX330 and ES330 while they were selling RX300 and ES300. Both RX330 and ES330 came out the following year. So, folks, just wait until 2006 for 550i It's going to be cool on the road with lots and lots of torque and power.

550i isn't very realistic.
However it's a good trademark to own, when you already have 520i, 525i, 523i, 530i and 545i

the 550i will be a new 4.8L V8 that replaces the current 4.5 somewhere around mY07 or 08.

There will not be a 545 or 645 or 745 when this is released...it will go 550i/650i/750i.....
