Sorry for you mate but be happy as my friend I posted is trying to sell his E270 had so much probs and MB service was damn idot... so he opted a 525d Ind.

Chill if you have probs take it to dealer, do not worry still you will get more respect than ever.

I have the "older" before 09/2005 car 530d it is awesome, I wud never go for stupid start button and keyless entry etc. For me the key system start is perfect I get the message on the HUD press brake and then off I go....

Sorry to hear your problems - hope they get fixed.

Regaring the revs on breaking, the auto box does sometimes decide to change down to assist with engine braking. Has tended to happen with me when breaking moderately hard going down a hill (not sure if it has a level sensor, or simply deduces a hill). Quite difficult to predict when it wuill happen, but on certain steep routes it does regularly.
Could this be what you experienced.
I'd agree - it does seem like 'engine braking' IMHO

..that's intersting new-kid. I used see exactly this revving up going down hill (in our village) everyday in my previous BMW (525i) auto. I had not seen it in the 530d. well I have not had much chance to drive it yet
Engine braking sounds like a reasonable explanation for it happening.

If its any conciliation my last car an E-Class avangarde 270CDI was a dog of a car for reliability. It would take almost two pages to list all the issues and how inept M-B were at trying to put them right. All manufacturers including the prestige German ones have cars that are less than desirable.

happy for you we have to keep in mind that new Bimmers are full of hightec stuff so they can go wrong but the service repairs that for us, and we can be proud BMW E60 owners.

sorry I still think that until facelift this car will stay the best in the world!

It's back from the garage !!

I picked it couple of hours ago -- boy I have missed it !
So far it has started every time (4 times)

They said they have replaced all the injecters and the diesel control unit.
They ran tests for couple hours (stopping and starting) without faults.
They said it also has the latest software (though I have no way of find out what the version number is).

One interesting thing I notice about my new 530d compared to the one they lent me (9 months old '05 model) is that the old one had a very "positive" start when I turned the key compared to my one with the start button. It is hard to describe but let me try. When I press the start button, it seems to crank couple of times and fire -- sounds like "da da da vroom" where as the old one they lent just seems to just fire on the turn of the key -- "da vroom". Any one notice how their (diesel) car sounds when they start ? [may be this should be a seperate thread topic].

BTW, while they had my car I said to them "..oh BTW and the CD player does not play any of my CD's with MP3 files". They said we'll take a look but try to fobb me off by saying that the CD player is a bit picky about the types of CD's and does not always read all the CD's with MP3. When I got the car today they said since it has had new software, please try your MP3 CD's again "it should be OK now" and if not then contact them. Of course when I got home I tried several MP3 CD's and none of them played. I read somewhere Business Audio will never play MP3's but the dealer did not seem to know that. Is that true ?

Anyway, I post some pics of the new beast soon.

Glad you've got the beast back and all seems well. Hopefully this will fix it and all of this will be a distant memory.

Yes, pics soon please.

Hi JollyO,

Yep unfortunately you need the Professional Radio for mp3 playback.

I'm surprised BMW haven't made this standard in Blighty by now. Tsk!

Thanks browellm. It is really great to have it back and goes like a dream
I realiase I need the Pro radio for the MP3 but teh dealer does not seem to know that !
I am going in (again) tomorrow and insist they "fix" it as measure of goodwill for all the trouble I have had. I would be happy if they can fix it by adding the AUX IN so that I can plug the iPOD into. Let's see what they can come up with.

And you are right -- MP3 playback should be standard for 38 grand car -- even little Fiesta's have has standard now !

Problems are a distant memory.

I just can't stop driving this "beast" as I call it based on the fact it drives like one compared to my old 525i poodle .
I take every opportunity to give someone a ride, be the designated driver, first to volunteer, etc.

Anyway, the pics are here in a new topic.
