I'm getting curious!

Start thinking replacing my 530d - 2004 (for the new one with 231 HP or a 535d) next year by summer time because it will be around 120.000 kms.... or more.

The problem with the 535d is that i don't like at all the auto gear box .....

Indeed, a diesel revving to 7000rpm Although, with BMW you never know...

Just been in the 730d with the new engine and it's a peach! Quiet and seemed very powerful! However, I haven't tried a 535d yet...

Haven't driven new 530d but I did ask my dealer what he thought and he said it was better than previous 218hp engine but still way off the 535d. The 535d of course has turbo power (2 x turbos) all the way to the red line whereas the 530d tails off after 3,500rpm. Driving round town at speeds up to 60mph there isn't much difference between the 2.

I would never have a manual box on an E60 as the auto has refinement no manual can match. I borrowed a 120d manual the other day and it was so jerky it felt cheap. Similar to my old 528i manual.

I thought the smaller turbo spun up nice and early compared with the 530d? I would of thought that would of helped quite a bit? (In theory - perhaps the practice is different?)

hey btw what's the difference between the 2 E60 530d existing models? some have the tail pipes bent down and some have them straight...
i guess it's the aprticle filter but is there a difference in hp also(218/231)?
Thanx

The 'old' engine (218PS) had two different exhaust systems. The straight ones have the filter and lower emissions and the bent ones did not... Same power but in some countries the tax can be lower depending on how it is calculated. In the UK I think it only affects company cars as there's a small discount for the EU4 compliance...

So i suspect that the 231 engine comes only with straight exhausts...right?
