Welcome On Board

Your gonna love the 525, I've had mine since early April and it's a fantastic daily driver.

I am looking forward to it.

How is the performance? The "old" 525d that I had on test was reasonable and faster than my C270cdi despite only having 7bhp more and the same torque.

The test car influenced my choice of interior colours heavily - it was a Lemans Blue individual with extended Champagne leather...

I wanted my next car to be noticably quicker and used my wifes 330d as a yardstick - on paper, the LCI is very similar to the 330d touring -(525d) 146 mph, 7.7s 0-60 Vs (330d) 144mph and 7.8s.

If it wasn't for such a cost difference, I would have gone for the 530d but a remap is always an option...

The C270 has a real lag at initial pull away so I have high hopes of the 6 speed auto box.

Regards,

D

Dear 525d MSport,

See this.

It's in German but try to read the AMS comparison between the new LCI 3 litre 525i and 525d.

In short it says that the "d" is much more economical and has the torque but is not as sporty as the "i".

I hope this doesn't sound negative... but the 330d is _much_ faster than the 525d. The 330d is also much faster than the 530d. We had a 525d. When we went to get a new car, we tested the 330d but it wasn't big enough for us. But my god was it fast. We tried the 530d, it was better than the 525d, but nothing compared to the 330d. I have a 535d on order which I hope will feel as fast as the 330d.

The 525d will be a lovely car, but to expect 330d performance is just not realistic I'm afraid.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear or perhaps I did and I will be dissappointed!

The 330d in question was my wife's 2004 E46 touring sport auto (204bhp).

I also assume you test drove the 3 litre LCI 525d rather than the 177bhp 2.5...If not I could understand your comments,

I wouldn't expect the 525d to be as fast as the current E90 330d which is 231bhp, and in saloon trim with auto box) 155mph and 6.8s to 60.

Tell me we were "talking" at cross purposes - please...

Regards,

We drove the pre-LCI 330d Sport, about 18 months ago. So it wasn't the E46, but not the LCI with the bigger engine either. This said, the E60 we have is also pre-LCI (as we bought the 530d after trying the 330d), which also has the less powerful engine compared to the LCI.

So yes, I expect the LCI 525d and E46 330d will be similar

Time is moving slowly forward so that in two weeks time I will be able to give my review - subject of course to not giving it too many berries during the running-in period...

Cheers,
