I've had my car for almost 6 weeks now and I've come to one conclusion- I believe that the runflats are to blame for the "lumpy" ride around town. It seems as if the wheels have lives of their own. I cannot believe that BMW would have built a car with such awful suspension. I have no problems at all when driving on the main roads and highways- In fact we made a 2,500 km round trip to France in August and the car was a dream on those French autoroutes. I assume that most of you were already BMW owners and would like to know if you are still on RFT's or have changed.

I think your LCI E60 suspension has been changed to cope with the 2nd Gen of run-flat tyres (Not sure)...but pls correct me if i was wrong!

Just changed from standard SE 138 17" RFT bridgestones RE50 to 19" on 125 rims with 245 Pilot sports 2s on the front 275 non RFT RE050A Bridgestones on the back
I've lost a lot the crashing about on roads was worse than my M3 was, and that noise where you think the wheel bearings are shot at the front, now you hear the wind noise instead.
You lose some safety in theory, but gain better handling, and I suspect better wet response - my 525D was tail happy with RFTs plus I still have a working tyre pressure monitor with non RFTs.
Think theres a long way to go before these things are as good as normal tyres. just remember to buy a jack wheel brace and spare of some sort !!
Dont ask my why

Has anyone started with 18" 124s with RFT and stayed with the same rims but replaced the RFT with PS2's? I assume the ride will be significanly better since you will maintain the sidewall height. I really want to get 166's but worry about the reduced sidewall height and increased risk of damaging the rims.

I went from 18" RFT to conventional about 3k miles ago. The ride is significantly better and quieter on all surfaces and also virtually all of the at times wicked tramlining has gone. The RFT's were getting louder and harsher as the miles worn on too (I had 15K on mine when I dumped them).
There is a small downside in that the steering is not quite as sharp nor is the high speed cornering quite as stable as it was with the stiff walled RFT's. Overall the car does not feel as rock solid at the limit.
Overall though the change is a vast improvement in day to day conditions.

you should have asked "How many people are still on RFT?"

I change my RFT last year to no RFT after it was well run down, why wast tyres!
Next time when I get a new BMW with RFT I will drive them much harder to ware them out faster. Burn rubber
