Well, I swapped the left side wheels, front to back & vice versa, and the shimmy in front is pretty much gone, but now I am feeling the results in my seat, which would make sense. But at least I narrowed down which wheel was out of sync, but I am still going to have all 4 balanced again.

On a separate note, is it me or do winter sport tires ride harsh as hell?! The ride feels like my M5's EDC in full Sport mode....harsh! I am not sure if I am supposed to lower the pressures or not from the usual summer figures? They came from TR with 32 lbs. in each, but I bumped them up to 36 lbs. I think I am going to drop them back down to see if that helps.

I miss my summer tires so much, and it's only been 3 days. On the bright side, I only have about 4.5 months to go!
No, my arse thinks they're just fine, and I've been pleased with the driving dynamics too..I had Blizzak WS50's once and would rather have been driving a 69 Javelin.

I'm running 36 all around. Bring yours down to 32-33 pressure and see if you like that better -- I'll bet that's the sweet spot for you.

Hi All -

I went with Rial Salerno 17's and Pirelli SnowSports. The overall diameter, surprisingly enough, was about the same as my stock 172's. The Salerno is pressure cast and I imagine will be very sturdy. I actually like the look:

Bob, those rims look like OEM.....I like 'em.

How's your car riding now? And what pressures are you runnin'?

36/39 I believe - and it is riding smooth and holding the road well - although I do see the traction control kicking in more than with the 19's - that's just my lead foot.

I actually left my 10mm spacers on the rears. I wish I had some 15's lying around instead. The ET20 on my new rims were just too pushed in looking.

I'll know more tomorrow re: my rough riding tires after my visit to the dealership. I feel like I am getting kicked in the ass while driving. Hopefully it's just the balance being off.

And I also notice the TC coming on more often as well with the snows, on dry starts.

DrLev99,

What was the reason why you sold your M5 to C? The last time I read about your M5 was when you drove home the M5 from the dealership.

Update:

Dealer re-balanced all 4 winter wheels/tires I got from tirerack that were causing vibration. They were ALL out of balance! What is with tirerack?

So, now I should be good to go...So far so good with the ride.

As for my oil level too high warning, they can't figure it out. I had their best mechanic working on my car, and he decided to at first just drain about a liter of oil. The iDrive still read "Engine Oil Level Too High" after that. So, he then replaced my oil sensor and changed the entire oil and left it about a liter low before rechecking it. Still read, "Engine Oil Level Too High." He then disconnected the battery and let is sit for around a half hour....still read Too High after reconnecting.

He searched the database and found something from the 2006 models re: this issue but nothing for MY '08. So, now I have a PUMA case submitted to BMW Germany. My guy isn't sure if a software update will fix things, but it's looking like that might be the next step. Will keep posted.....

Oh yeah, I thought the newer models didn't have actual dipsticks. He showed it to me today, so I guess the LCI 550's have them at least. I found this old post from Rudy: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=531391

I've had tires installed backwards from tirerack and almost always had to have them re-balanced after delivery. I don't order wheel/tire combos from them anymore. The fact is, you just can't beat OEM wheels - so I find those used on ebay, get Discount Tire to match Tire Rack's price (often it is better out of the gate), then have them install everything. As a plus, they will swap your winter/summer setup for you free twice a year.

As far as ride quality, very strange. I always looked forward to my winter setup on the 550 (M3s on OEM 138s). Of course I had the RFTs on for the summer.....

Surprisingly, my mechanic said the same thing about Tirerack.....has to rebalance countless sets they get, either direct or from customers who bring them in. I didn't expect to hear that. All should be good now. I am not worried about the wheels I currently have. They are hubcentric and appear to be good quality after-market rims, if there is such a thing.
