and as pointed out, here in the US, all versions of the 5-series (except for the M5) come with a spare - does not matter if you have run flats or not.

Got the 550i and it came with run flats.

Do they all come with run flats? The car has a spare and I asked the fleet manager if anything would happen if I went to regular tires. He told me the bushings on the car would go out quicker because of the softer ride. Seems like crap to me.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Rock
if it comes with 19' the tires cannot be runflat and therefore BMW provides a spare tire.

Let get this straight -- the dude who said your bushings would wear out if you switched to conventional tires was also the guy who said the car came with runflats? I'm willing to bet your car does not have runflats at all...

Even if it was someone else at the dealership who told you it had runflats -- just check for yourself. Read the tire's sidewall and tell us what you see and we'll tell you what you have if you aren't sure. I think this would be the first US-spec LCI 550i with runflats from the factory...I'm not convinced just yet...
Rudy picked the car up late November and the tire say radial tubeless would that indicate a run flat tire? or is there something else it would say?

Thanks

Rock

I'm not sure about the M5, but all other 08 E60s in the US come with run-flats and a spare except for the 550 Sport. That model has conventional tires and a spare.

Rock14, as you can tell from the other responses, many of us have gone from run-flats to conventional tires. The only result of the switch is a lighter wallet and a smoother ride. Check to see whether you have the sport package on your 550. If you do not, consider the change.
The car has the sport package, so not a good idea to get non run flats?

If you have a '08 550 with Sport Package, then you already have non run flats.

run flats have a symbol on the sidewall. IIRC, its a star inside a circle.

So last question on the topic.

Can I go to non runflats on the 550i sport package without it having a negative effect on the bushings when these tires go out?

This thread is all over the map! (And I'm partially to blame, I think! )

Here's a summary of what we know as it pertains to 2008 (LCI) cars...and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

1) 550i non-sport package cars come with runflats standard.
2) 550i sport package cars come with non-runflats.
3) Both cars, at least in the US, come with a donut spare tire.
4) Rock14 has a 550i sport package.
5) Rock14's car should have non-runflats.
6) I wish Rock14 would just give us the tire's make and model from the sidewall to make things simpler.
7) Rock14's "fleet manager" (whatever that means) is an idiot for talking about bushings in the first place.
8) No busing damage will occur on the car because of a runflat or non-runflat being installed.

Whew, sorry, I had to get that off my chest -- this thread was starting to make my brain hurt!

That would be a non-runflat tire...
