Even if it was someone else at the dealership who told you it had runflats -- just check for yourself. Read the tire's sidewall and tell us what you see and we'll tell you what you have if you aren't sure. I think this would be the first US-spec LCI 550i with runflats from the factory...I'm not convinced just yet...
RF tires are standard on the 550i.

So it's a sport package thing where they give you non-runflats? (Silly me, I forgot there was such a thing as a 550 without the sport package... )

So they actually do make a 550i without the sport package?

And 540i's also believe it or not. I don't think the sport package is standard on the 520i either for that matter.

If I recall correctly the new 550i without the Sport Package comes with 17" run-flat tires. The new 550i with the Sport Package comes with 19" non run-flat tires.

That was my 1st question when he showed me where the spare was and proceeded to tell me it had run flats.

Has anyone went to run flats yet on their E-60 and do you notice a difference in the ride?
I have, the ride is noticeably softer - but to my liking. I think many people here switched to non-run flats and liked it.

Cons against run flats:
1 - Cost
2 - They wear out faster
3 - Stiffer and more noisy ride
4 - Increased weight
5 - Higher rolling resistance which worsen's fuel economy

I'm not sure about the M5, but all other 08 E60s in the US come with run-flats and a spare except for the 550 Sport. That model has conventional tires and a spare.

Rock14, as you can tell from the other responses, many of us have gone from run-flats to conventional tires. The only result of the switch is a lighter wallet and a smoother ride. Check to see whether you have the sport package on your 550. If you do not, consider the change.

So, WHICH thumpflats are these std 550s getting? I hope, for your sake, that they are not Dunlops. I kiss mine goodbye Thursday.

And as I recall, only Euro (or maybe even just British) spec runflats came without a spare; I remember guys here going out trying to buy a donut to put in the trunk because they had nothing.
