Need some advice - best way to add NAV / Video to my car?
Objective: Add NAV function, and ability to display video on iDrive screen in the dash.
Car: 2006 520d with no GPS just CD player.
Related Question: Can I just take out the factory CD player and swap it with a GPS unit then add some interface that lets me feed video to the in dash screen?
Looking for your feedback as to what would be the best route/option to take for me.
Thanks

Quite a few members here bought the CIC retrofit kit from member Patrys (info@bimmer-tech.net). I myself included. Send him a message.

I second that, bimmer-tech has some pretty cool things.
Give him your VIN and he will tell you what you can and cannot do.

but i am wondering is it possible to just take the cd player out, buy a used navi, put that in, and hook it up to the screen?
in other words, a simple remove + plug n play
because i see used navis go for about 400-500 etc

No... They have different screens. Your best option would be to obtain the entire navigation system (they pop up on eBay) and go that route. Keep in mind you'd most likely need to code for this as well. Also keep in mind that most of us are in the US and over here we only have the option of two iDrive systems:
M-ASK - Smaller screen, no nav
CCC - Larger Screen, NAV
CIC - LArger Screen, NAV, replacement to the CCC
In other countries (perhaps yours) there was an additional basic navigation system which I believe used the smaller screen and just gave turn by turn directions. If you're going to go through the trouble of retrofitting I'd at least go with the CCC.
