I've read a few posts where certain dealers in the US are saying that the Nav and Hud won't be available until March '04. BUT, I also read a couple posts where certain dealers in the US indicated that it's not true and they're ordering it now.

Anyone know how we can get something more definitive on this? I just spoke to my dealer here in Sacramento, CA and he did say "March '04". I guess I'm wondering if the dealers even know for sure.

I really want the Nav, but I'm so excited that I don't want to wait. I wonder if I can order now and then add the Nav when it becomes available?

I am getting the same message as KIF, no nav until 2004. However, my dealer tells me their ordering system will allow them to select Nav as an option when they order, which may explain some of the inconsistent messages from dealers. Although they can select it, it is still not available.

Nav Prof should be available Oct/Nov 2003. Everywhere you look on BMW's web site it says "end of 2003" and not 2004. Atleast we can hope.

Holter, any news on the HUD option? I have not checked with my dealer for a while so I have no news myself. Last time I checked both HUD and NAV weren't available until March 2004. If NAV is available sooner, I may consider not waiting for HUD.

Since I have to wait for NAV anyway, and the new e60 demo should be at my dealership in a month, I am not going to order until I see and test drive a demo e60 from my dealer.

Now that you mention it everywhere on BMW.COM they say HUD will also be available at end of 2003.

"Vehicle speed information or navigation system directions - the optional Head-Up Display (available end of 2003) means that the driver's eyes never have to leave the road. Information is projected into the driver's field of vision."

I recall in great detail that it used to say March 2004 for HUD but never for Navigation Professional.
This is just from reading www.bmw.com .. availability in the USA here is a huge unknown.

My guess(es) are:
1. When pricing is announced we'll get the availability details.
2. With bmw saying "end of 2003" which is when the 545i will launch. I __HOPE__ they are trying to time having all the options available with the launch of the 545.

It makes much sense to me but its all speculation really.

I sure hope so. I really just want the NAV. The Options Sheet that was just released just looks like March '04 though. It clearly indicates that SMG, Rear Entertainment, NAV, HUD, and Satelite Radio will be available with 03/04 production.

So if that's part of the March production, when would the car even be delivered? April or May? Sheesh. I want the NAV!

Is it possible to order a E60 530 now, such that it is built pre wired for a NAV ?
Then later in spring 04 , have the dealer install the NAV when available...i guess at a much higher price.

So I've been told, the answer is "no". No retro fit for the Nav. We all have to wait patiently if we want the Nav. Again, March production (early May delivery???) for E60s with Nav (I guess).

It doesn't appear that a retrofit is likely for a variety of reasons (standard screen size is a big one). Of course anything is technically possible, but it seems that in this case, rather than offer a retrofit/upgrade program, they'll just have people actually wait until NAV is available to make the purchase. Looks like I'll be waiting until at least March 2004 as well!
