I had no folding mirror's and did'nt think I had the high module but I managed to find a set of folding mirror's on ebay for ?120 and a switch panel from a very helpful member on these very forum's for ?40 and managed to get them fitted and coded by my local BMW independent, all working now with a 3 sec press of my locking button on my fob and a normal unlock to have them folding out again.
finally managed to get my dealer service centre to admit its possible to have auto fold if you have door modules, which i have, needs 1 hours worth of programming to do.

Any idea how you would find out whether your car has a high module (what is that anyway)?

I have a 2006 year car and would like to get folding mirrors

From what I remember if you passenger mirror dips when you select reverse then you have high modules. If it doesn't then you have low modules.

Door modules were removed in 2006 and they were replaced with the Body Control Module which actually doesn't sit in the door any more.

Oh thats new information, Thanks. Are the looms fitted for the mirrors to plug into then or would they need fitting. Also are there different versions of the body control module?

bruce is right, all the door controls were switched to the body module. I would imagine the looms are completely different on post 2006 cars.

Yes i guess the looms are totally different for the later cars but i was wondering if cars that werent specced with folding mirrors would still have the wiring inplace from the body control module to the door for the mirrors to be retrofitted.

There is no wiring to be left intact.

Infact there are three variants of the mirrors.
1. Pre Sep 2006 - these use the High door modules and have many wires and 3 plugs at the end of the mirror.
2. 2006 onwards - these use the Body Control Module and have 4 wires connected to a single plug. I've seen this only on mirrors with just the electric adjustment and glass heater.
3. Post Sep 2006 - these use the Body Control Module and an ECU inside the mirror to control all the features. These mirrors only have 3 wires.

M5 mirrors are only available on 1. and 3. from my list above.

If anyone is interested I have either a set of Post Sep 2006 M5 mirrors or a set of normal Pre Sep 2006. Both mirrors have all the options on them.

Since I've having trouble finding a buyer for the M5 mirrors maybe I'll just put those on and sell off the normal mirrors that I had intended to put on.
