I'd get a short lease on the e55 then trade it in for a M5.

then why not lease a 545 and get a m5 later on ? you'll get a "loyal customer" discount from your dealer.

Although the 645 is a beautiful car, if it's performance you want, the 545 is lighter and a little faster. You won't go wrong with any of your choices...just a matter of what you are really looking for in the car.

I used to hang out on the E55 board a year ago and almost bought one. They, as do we, love their cars. Most will agree that the E55 is not an all around sports sedan - It is a luxury sedan with awesome horsepower. The interior is typical MB and more luxurious than the 5er. As far as the handling and drivablity the 545 is superior. It is also cheaper, you pay the premium for the AMG label. What changed my mind was my first 545 test drive.

While waiting for the E60 545 I had the chance to drive several friends MB's a S55, S600, and a Brabus C500, While the MB is a great luxo car at almost twice the cost. It still didn't "drive" the way the 5er does. and everytime I get the chance to prove it to the MB owners in my circle of friends I do

I went through the same dilemma. My choice was narrowed down to the e55 or the 545. Have driven both. The e55 is a monster, a cushy, well refined, sort of bland looking stealth beast. The car is seriously fast. The HP alone was not enough to justify 90K plus when compared to the 545.

The handling and the ride of the BMW are unmatched, this is something you live with every moment that you drive the car. While the speed and the HP of the e55 are phenomenal, you only get to use it on ocassion.

If blowing the doors off 99% of cars on the street is your objective, get the e55. If you want the all around package with admirable performance, get the 545.

Both are great cars, but as many have said, decide what you want the car for and drive them both.

Good Luck!
