I live in NY and a buddy and I need to escape. Any serious suggestions? Willing to drive 8-10 hours each direction. Mostly interested in south or west of NYC. Thanks!

Possibly unhelpful, but with that distance in mind, I'd suggest you go north and east of the City, rather than south and west. A longer drive, say across the Country, different story, but at that distance exploring Vermont or Maine would be an option. Would be a great experience taking routes where you could get away from only driving on the major highways, which it seems to me is what you'd end up doing if you went down to the Carolinas or something.

Just my humble opinion.

Cape Carteret, NC

10hrs from NYC, or 587 miles. How soon you get there is upto you. I suppose you can make it there in 8-10 hours

Drive 2.5 hrs to Atlantic City ... weekend temps in the 60's plenty of great hotel rooms for cheap! Plenty of other things to see and do in AC when the weather is nice. If you want sedate stuff try Cape May ... want wet and wild, try the Atlantic County adult entertainment scene, several interesting wineries, a few good golf courses; A 1.5 hour drive or NJ Transit train ride from AC to Philadelphia for sports stuff.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it

Thanks guys. Not a golfer and Myrtle seems to be a huge 13 hr ride each way...to others points, if it's all boring i95, then maybe no good??? How about Charlottesville va and take 81 and maybe hop on 205 into the higher elevations once in that area? My only problem is that I have seen Deliverance once too many times! Black BMW with NY plates may not be wise.

Exact reason right there, we prefer Yankees just stay in NY. That way you can yell and scream at each other, honk the chit out of your horns, talk way too loud, act like you are the center of the universe, and dress like you just left the jersey shore TV set all you want.

How is that for stereo types.......
