Unhappy

I drove an '08 TL-S that belongs to my brother and while it is a very nice car and handles well, it's not a 550i.

Problems? It's a trade off. If you can't tolerate any trip to the repair shop then get the Acura. BMW is definitely not as reliable as the Japanese. However, their new models are doing a lot better. In the UK, BMW is rated as the most reliable, go figure.

I've own three bimmers so far ('05 330i, '07 550i and '08 X5). Except some minor problems with steering wheel sensor and I-Drive (requires software update), everything else has been working flawlessly. The 330i had 45K miles when I sold it (needed a bigger car), the 550i has 37K miles so far and the X5 has 15K miles. I only bring the car to the dealer for services covered under warranty. Everything else I use the local BMW shop (a lot cheaper).

What got me started on this was this link: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p...amp;cardist=209
Beware! This looks fishy to me! Did you notice the VIN number was not listed?

A couple weeks ago, I was looking at an e60 M5 with 20K miles, on sale for $35K. When I contacted the seller and asked for the VIN and the history report, he gave me some bull$hit that he is out of the country and doesn't have access to that info. He also said that if I made the payment, he car will be shipped immediately

I seriously considered a TL before my bimmer ... until I test drove one. The Acura is reliable, fast and spacious. The price is a steal. The only thing that drove me away is the torque steer ... dear God!!! If you are not holding on to the wheel with both hands tightly while under full acceleration, you will end up in a ditch. .... and this is in 2nd gear, 1st gear is hopeless. Don't get me wrong, great car, worth every penny, but not for me.

In terms of reliability, you will not have an issue with Acura, but as you can probably see, many people have issues with BMW ... its a hit or miss sistuation.

i must say that i am suprised and disgusted at the amount of love the acrura tl, or should i say honda accord with body kit is getting on this board. how could you say that an acura is even in the same ballpark as a bmw? as my good friend al pacino from donnie brasco would say (that is if they were talkin about bmw's and acuras)...

LEFTY -You can't say to me a Acura is
better than a BMW.

NICKY -It's the better automobile, no
question. Head and shoulders.

LEFTY -Geddadaheah. Geddadaheah before
you make me mad.

SONNY -Lefty, how you gonna be mad at
Nicky?

LEFTY -I ain't mad at him. I'm mad at
his stupidity.

LEFTY -Ain't no comparison. BMW
got more acceleration, more
power, more-- better handling,
better looking, more legroom for
your legs , more power...

BOOBIE -You said that.

LEFTY -Said what?

BOOBIE -More power.

LEFTY -Be got me so f*cking aggravated,
I forgot what I said.

thats a great movie so many good quotes....

+1 Although I'm not sure about the current market, the price also seems too good to be true for an 06 550i especially by a private seller...IMO If it's the price offers to me to drive what I'm having right now(also an 06 550i), the choice is obvious...definitely a BMW!!!!

Although I have some respect for the TL, I don't think it really compares to the 550.

That said, after reading all the posts from the OP, I think he should get the Acura...

Quite honestly, if you have to even ask, buy the TL. You need the Acura, not the BMW based on your comments. End of story and have a nice day.

I say get 95 Honda accord (or acura cl) and rack up the commuter mileage on that car and buy the 550i as your weekend toy. I read something about the 4 cylinder models having a large # of cars in the million mile club with original engines and only one tranny swap. Having owned one before they are indestructible maintenance wise. All it needs is gas and oil changes. But beware they are boring as all hell.
