For CIC controller you need ZBE set to low - low_with_slopes is for iDrive low (at least that is how my car is configured).

I think in the long run you'll be happy you moved up from CCC to CIC. I contemplate it daily when I start up the vehicle and have to wait sometimes several minutes before I can actually use the thing. It is my understanding that the CIC does not suffer from this. But it's still better than it was before nav.
