I just wanted to thank you for the good advice. I got the dealer to update the software to V27.2.1 and now I can search for poi's by name. I wonder what other little things I might find in this new version? I did exactly as you said and told them about the CD skipping. Anyway, thanks again!

I experimented with the Nav the other night. Love the car, but the Nav in this car is a terrible design. It's not intuitive at all! My previous car's nav system was marvelous and ridiculously simple to get whatever, wherever. So tell me about this update some of you speak of. Can you go directly to a POI menu or do you still have to go into "Information" then "On Location" then "Category," etc.? And I think I read in my manual that you can do phone number lookup for destinations, but I might have been reading in the Phone section. I swear I went wall-eyed at some point while reading Encyclopedia BMW that they use for a manual.

i have 04 545i sport, can I upgrade idrive to V27.2.1 so I can search for poi's by name and not go through submenus in Information. The other night I wanted to find Lexus dealer in my NAV and could not do it. I tried all categories and idrive had no results, it looks like they only give you pre-stored bmw dealer locations and prevent you from searching other dealers.. So this new version you can search for POI by name withough going to categories that your destination is located in and then search for it?! That would be great, just like in Lexus or Audi, because this sucks..

It is true that Nav is pretty lame in the BMW compared to state-of-the-art technology.
For $1,900 you think they could do a better job.
Still, the full integration with iDrive makes it superior to sticking a Garmin on your windshield.
We can only hope BMW continues to improve the software. They got the ideas right, but their implementation leaves a lot to be desired. They should license iDrive development to a real software company.
